ICE vs Heat
If you have an acute injury ie; torn muscle or some other bodily trauma, you should apply ice on it versus heat. Typically apply ice ASAP and up to 72 hours.
Apply ice pack to area for 10 minutes 3 times a day. Here are some techniques you can try:
Take a hand towel, get damp, then wrap ice inside towel. A dry towel does not work well.
You may use bags of frozen vegetables but use damp towel as above.
Putting heat on contused / bruised areas will make the area bleed more and slow down healing; especially within 72 hours after injury. Once 72 hours is past heat is usually good to use. Their are microwavable packs that work very well. Ice Or heat? A Gentleman fell off his bicycle yesterday and injured his leg. Ice/ heat? My Sciatica flared up today.. ice/ heat?
